Tides
founder and director of baseball operations is Joe Styborski, he started the program in 1994, when he was
attending Rhode Island College. Styborski has a long coaching resume, as he has previously coached at Bishop Hendricken
High School in Warwick, RI. There Styborski acted as the varsity pitching coach for 4 years, and then
began teaching in Providence and took a job coaching the JV baseball team at
Classical High School. In his 6 years as the Classical High School head JV coach his teams won 6 Metro Titles and 4 JV
State Championships.
As the Tides have begun to grow, Styborski stepped down from the high school
coaching ranks, and now just runs the Tides, as that requires a great deal of
time. Styborski also teaches psychology and law in the city of Providence.

13U Team Coaching Staff
The head coach for the 13U team is Joe Styborski,
(see above), who
is also the founder and director of the organization, he is assisted by Mark
Andrews and Jarrod Brucato. Coach Andrews is the team's third base coach and
coordinates the practices for the 13U team. He is also the assistant varsity
baseball coach at Moses Brown School. In addition, Coach Brucato is the
pitching and catching coach for the team. Jarrod also pitched at Providence
College when the institution had a baseball program. Over the past 5
years this coaching staff has worked together as the team has gone on to
compete in the AAU Nationals in each of those years. In those 5 years the
team has advanced to championship pool each year, and the sweet sixteen
twice.
15U Team Coaching Staff
In 2007, our 14U team had an outstanding season, finishing 3rd in the
country and bringing home a Bronze Medal, as team traveled to Disney to
compete in the AAU 14U Nationals. But it wasn't an easy season, our team had
a quite a few high school players and this caused a lot of juggling with not
just the pitching staff but also the everyday lineup, but Rian and his staff
did a great job of keeping it all together and in the end the team was very
successful. So in 2009, Coach McCarthy and his staff will return, but will
move up and head coach the 15U team.
From Middletown, RI when he is not coaching the Tides, Rian is an assistant
coach at Salve Regina University, he played
baseball at Colby College, and has been an assistant at Salve for a couple
of years now. As previously stated with the Tides in his first year as a
head coach he guided his 14U team to a Bronze Medal finish at the AAU
Nationals in Disney. Also, during the Super Division playoffs, the Tides
went into the Final Four of New England as the #1 seed, overall they
finished third in New England and then third in the country, and had the
highest finish nationally of any New England 14U team. Rian, also coached in the NE Ruffneck program, so he is familiar
with the AAU circuit. He is assisted by Mike Lewis, who pitched at Salve
Regina, and Mike acts as the pitching coach for the 15U team. The 15U team
is also assisted by Shawn Rogers, who played at Roger Williams University.
This coaching staff will be taking the 14U Tides team to Disney for the AAU
Nationals in July.
